A lot of organisations running Jamf to manage their Mac fleet do not realise they are already paying for a platform that can do the same job. Microsoft 365 at the Business or Enterprise tier includes Intune, which manages both Windows and Mac devices from the same console, under the same licensing model, without an additional per-device cost. For organisations already invested in the Microsoft stack, the Jamf bill can be a line item that no longer needs to exist.
Jamf is an excellent platform and the right choice in specific contexts, particularly for organisations where macOS is the primary or only endpoint platform and where the depth of Mac-specific tooling matters. The question is whether it is still the right fit once Intune is properly configured for Mac management. In many cases, the capability gap is smaller than it appears, and the per-device saving across a growing fleet is significant.
The cost arithmetic changes materially at scale. A dedicated Mac MDM typically runs at $6 to $8 per device per month. At 200 devices, that is up to $19,200 per year for a capability that may already be included in your Microsoft 365 licensing. Eliminating that line item as headcount grows is straightforward savings with no reduction in management capability.
The practical consideration is configuration. Intune's Mac management requires deliberate setup to reach feature parity with what you may be running today, and that work needs to be done carefully to avoid a gap in device coverage during the transition. Getting it right the first time is the difference between a clean migration and a period of unmanaged devices.
If your Mac estate is growing and device management is a separate line item in your IT budget, it is worth understanding whether that cost is still justified. We can assess your current environment against what you are already licensed for, and tell you whether the saving is real and what it would take to capture it.
